Cord Peter Jasper Cohrs was orphaned at the age of 6 in the Kingdom of Hanover, Germany. He was raised under the guardianship of an Uncle and immigrated to the United States in 1865 after spending 53 days on the sailing ship Helena. After spending time in Cook County, Illinois, he purchased a farm in Herkimer Township, Marshall County, Kansas in 1870 and raised his family and farmed there for quite some time. Following the death of his son, Henry August in 1915, he assisted his daughter-in-law, Mary Cohrs, with farming and the raising of her young Cohrs family in Garfield County, Oklahoma. Peter was the husband of Katherine Gieshler Cohrs. They shared four children - Henry August, Anna Dorothe, Fred and Katharina.
