Retired SRS SRS GROVETOWN, Ga. -Mr. Ernest W. Akins " Bill" Akins Jr. age 64, husband of Lois Akins for thirty eight years, entered into rest on December 25, 2007 at Doctor's Hospital. Funeral services were held on Saturday December 29, 2007 in the Belair Rd. chapel of Platt's Funeral Home at 11:00 a.m. with Elder Dwayne Hoover and Elder Lasserre Bradley officiating. Interment Hillcrest Memorial Park. Mr. Akins was born in Statesboro,GA. to the late Ernest Akins Sr. and the late Josephine Groover Grove. He was a graduate of Richmond Academy and attended Augusta College. He served in the U.S. Army from 1963 until 1966. He retired from SRS after thirty eight years of service. Mr. Akins was a great outdoorsman who loved to hunt and fish, but was most known for his love of cooking and entertaining. He was a faithful member of the Augusta Old Line Primitive Baptist Church. He was a devoted grandfather to his grandchildren. He will be missed by his family and friends. Survivors include two daughters, Kim Chavous and her husband Bo of Augusta and Gwen Elsey of Augusta. One son, Bradley Atkins of Augusta. Five brothers, Robert Grove of Greer,SC, Kenneth and his wife Kip of Anderson,SC, Johnny Grove of Anderson, Charles Grove of Boyton,FL, Richard "Chick" Grove and his wife Linda Ellis of Augusta. Two sisters, Jane Hodges and Diane Morris of Statesboro,GA. Five grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. Pallbearers will be, Ralph West, Bill Brown, Bennie Harbin, Chester Skipper, Bob Coleman and Cloy Denard.
