Authorities said five people were killed Sunday night after their minivan collided with a pickup truck going the wrong way on an interstate north of downtown Toledo.
Assistant Fire Chief Luis Santiago said the Interstate 280 crash was among the worst he's seen. He said bits of gift wrap and toys were strewn about the highway, suggesting the minivan was carrying a family home from visiting relatives for Christmas.
The minivan bore Maryland license plates. The coroner's office said the dead include 36-year-old Bethany Griffin, 10-year-old Jordan Griffin and 6-month-old Vadi Griffin, all of Parkville, Md.
Also killed were 7-year-old Lacie Burkman and 10-year-old Haley Burkman of Redford, Mich.
