May Lucille Buckner was born on May 4, 1920, in Dogtown, Texas County, Missouri to Jesse and Cora Porter. She passed away quickly after a brief, unexpected illness. May worked during WWII as a Quality Control Specialist certifying bombs that were ready to be shipped out and was a spokesperson for war bonds promoting the purchase of them. May was also an ordained minister for three different churches but what she was best at was being a homemaker and loving and accepting everyone who came in contact with her. May Porter married Lois Buckner on January 1, 1944, in Houston, Missouri by Rev. Holbrook. They moved to Bakersfield in 1947. She had a zest for life and was even riding a Harley Davidson before it was cool. May was an amazing person who never met a stranger. If anyone was ever in need, May was there to help. She was always helping people out who were down on their luck. Many lives were touched by her generosity and thoughtfulness. May was preceded in death by her husband of 53 years; sons, Art Flint, Bobby Buckner Sr.; and daughter, Judy Higgins. She is survived by her children, Cora Buckner, Patty Duran, Billy Buckner, Gary Buckner and daughters-in-law, Kerrie Roberts and Cindy Buckner; twelve grandchildren, sixteen great-grandchildren, and numerous cousins, aunts, uncles and close friends whom she considered close family. Visitation services will be held Sunday, December 30, 2007, from 2:00 - 8:00 p.m., at Greenlawn Mortuary. Graveside services are scheduled for Monday, December 31, 2007, at 10:00 a.m., at Greenlawn Memorial Park, 3700 River Blvd. Officiating services will be Pastor Milt Cole. May Lucille Buckner May 4, 1920 - Dec. 25, 2007 Greenlawn Mortuary
