Ernest Hofmann Wiedrich was born in Elba, NY. He went to Medical School at Syracuse University, and was a family doctor in Wayne County, NY. He also was a physician at the Newark State School, back in the day when it had thousands of residents. He married Florence Sutton, who graduated as a teacher from Geneseo Normal School and taught 5th grade in the Ontario New York public schools. Their only child was Ernest Lee Wiedrich, born in 1914. Ernest Hofmann Wiedrich died of Tuberculosis at the home of his father. Prior to his death, he did military physicals, and was the medical director at Newark State School. When he became ill, he was a patient at a TB sanitarium in the Adirondaks, as it was thought that the cold air was beneficial to patients with TB. There were no antituburculin medications available at that time. He is buried at Ontario Village Cemetery.
