Lawrence S. Christey, 76, of Claremont, died Monday, Dec. 17, 2007 at the VA Hospital in Minneapolis.

He was born June 15, 1931 in Claremont, the son of Samuel and Minnie (Engbard) Christey.

Lawrence graduated from Claremont High School in 1949, and then entered the U.S. Air Force. He married Caroline Boerner Aug. 18, 1951 at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa. Lawrence then started working for OTC and later owned Christey Liquor store in Owatonna. He and Caroline later moved to rural Claremont and began farming on his family farm, which was recognized as a century family farm. Lawrence was a member of the VFW and American Legion in Owatonna, and he enjoyed hunting and fishing.

Lawrence is survived by, daughter Jean (David) Oiler of Watertown, Wis.; son Randy Christey (friend Dawn Nuetzman) of Owatonna; five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. He is also survived by one brother Karl (Kathy) Christey of Excelsior; two sisters Frances (Gene) Rassman of Owatonna, and Dorothy Jones of Claremont; and a special friend Marion Flom of Claremont.

His parents and his wife Caroline preceded him in death.

Visitation will be at Michaelson Funeral Home on Thursday from 4-8 p.m. and on Friday from 10 -11 a.m. at the funeral home. Funeral services will be held Friday at 11 a.m. at the funeral home with the Rev. Leah Elrod officiating. Burial will be in the Owatonna Memorial Gardens cemetery with honors provided by the Steele County Military Funeral Unit. Memorials are preferred to the donor's choice.
