John B. Atchley, 83, of Lebanon died Saturday at his home.

John was born in Hardwood, Okla., the son of Thomas and Adelia "Nene" (Ravan) Atchley. He was raised and attended school in Mena, Ark. John moved to Lebanon in 1947.

He met and later married Barbara Coffman on May 12, 1951. They resided in the Lebanon area and spent the past 49 years in Waterloo, where they reared their family. John worked for 39 years in the plywood industry before retiring from Champion Plywood.

He was a member of the Waterloo Baptist Church and was faithful in serving God before going home to be with him. He loved gardening, carpentry, spending time with his family and camping and fishing in his younger days. He was proud of all his grandchildren, especially his grandsons who are in the Army serving their country.

He is survived by wife Barbara of Waterloo; children Helen Howard of Albany, John Atchley and wife Rhonda of Lebanon, Judy Haugan and husband Charles of Lebanon, and Ben Atchley of Albany; nine grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Kathy Adilia Atchley; four brothers; two sisters; and his parents.

A memorial service will be Saturday at Huston-Jost Funeral Home.
