Union Civil War veteran. Born in Saxonburg, Pennsylvania, he moved to Cincinnati, Ohio. When the Civil War began, he answered President Lincoln's call for volunteers and enlisted with the 6th Ohio Volunteer Infantry, also known as the Guthrie Grays. He was mustered into Company C as a Private. After the war, he became a wholesale dry-goods merchant in New York and Cincinnati. He died at his residence in Price Hill near Cincinnati in 1925 at age 90.
