A newspaper account of the death of Mrs. Southern Ida Wickliffe Heath read:
SUDDEN ATTACK OF HEART CLAIMS A PIONEER RESIDENT
Mrs. Southern Ida Heath, 73, a resident of Santa Maria Valley for the past 49 years and of Santa Maria for the past 20 years, died yesterday afternoon at three o'clock in the home of her daughter, Mrs. Flora Overton, 410 East Orange Street, after a brief illness. Mrs. Heath had packed her grip and was awaiting a call of friends to take her on a visit to relatives in the Cuyama valley when taken ill. It was believed the excitement of preparing for the trip and anticipation of the visit caused the heart attack that resulted in her passing. Mrs. Heath was the widow of the late John Holloway Heath, a prominent rancher of Santa Maria valley, who died in 1915. She is survived by three daughters, one son and numerous grandchildren and one great grandchild. The three daughters are Mrs. Overton, Mrs. Dora Buzard, Long Beach, and Mrs. Mildred Heath, San Francisco. Her son is Isaac Heath of Wasco. The grandchildren are George and Walter Heath, Santa Maria; Miss Virginia Buzard, Long Beach; Mrs. Don Peterson, Berkeley; Mrs. Jewell Jackson, Santa Maria. The great grandson is Donald Jackson, Santa Maria. A sister, Mrs. Virginia Peal, Eugene, OR also survives. The funeral will be held at two o'clock Sun afternoon, Christian Science services being conducted in the chapel of the Dudley Mortuary Interment will be in Pine Grove Cemetery. The funeral record for Southern Ida Heath indicates she was living at time of death in her daughters home at 410 East Orange St. in Santa Maria, CA. and that she died of a coronary occlusion. Funeral home expenses were to be charged to an A.A. Dudley and I.C. Heath and total came to $178.18. However records show the checks received were from Mrs. P. Buzard contributed $89.09 of this amount as he Flora May Overton another $89.09, so they split the charges. Ida was a member of the Christian Science faith.
