Born in Bibb County, Megan was a dental assistant for the office of Dr. Charles Ross and a student in the dental hygiene program at Central Georgia Technical College. She was a member of Byron United Methodist Church and member of the Praise Band, and loved to sing. Megan graduated from Peach County High School where she was a former "Miss Peach County High School" and danced with the Peach County Golden Girls for four years. Fluent in Spanish, she was always eager to help by translating wherever needed. Megan was a joy to all, greatly loved by her extended Hispanic Family and friends. -Survivors include parents, Billy and Susan Helton of Macon and Denise and Ted Wiatrek of Byron; sister, Rita Haley Helton of Byron; brothers, Nick Wiatrek and Alex Wiatrek of Byron and Jordan Elliott and Drew Elliott of Macon; grandparents, Johnny and Tommie Smith of Fort Valley and Frances and Winford Helton of Byron; boyfriend, Javier Rodriguez of Byron; aunts and uncles, Debbie and Phil Griffin of Cobb, Johnny and Joyce Smith of Byron, Danny Smith of Fort Valley and Kay Helton of Byron; numerous cousins. Megan died from injuries sustained in a car accident.
