Patrolman John Baker, DSN 0086, a police officer assigned to the Communications Division as a police radio dispatcher, died last night after walking into the Saint Louis Fire Departments' Engine House number 31, which is located at 4408 Donovan Avenue, and had asked firemen for assistance.
Officer Baker, who was off duty at the time, said he had difficulty breathing, and he was placed in an ambulance and died on the way to St. Anthony's Hospital at Grand Boulevard and Chippewa Street. He had been under treatment for diabetes.
A policeman since 1950, Officer Baker served in the Hampton and Carondelet Districts before being assigned to the Communication's Division.
Officer Baker was a U. S. Navy veteran and served during World War 11 and achieved the rank of Seaman 2Nd Class.
Research of this officers employment history or assignments have been purged by the department due to the length of time since his passing.
