Almas J. Overby Sr.
A funeral for Almas J. Overby Sr., a retired welder, will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday in the Pegg. Paxson & Springer Chapel in Beaverton. Interment will be in River View Cemetery.
Mr. Overby died of pneumonia Friday in a Beaverton care center. He was 82.
He was born Oct, 29, 1911 in Grand Forks, N.D. He had lived in Southwest Portland since the late 1940's. Mr. Overby worked as a welder in the Portland shipyards during World War II. He continued to work in the welding field for 40 years until his retirement in 1968. Mr. Overby attended the Beaverton Foursquare Church.
Mr. Overby is survived by his sons, Almas J. Jr. of Portland, Bill R. of Springfield, Mo., and Andrew of Astoria; daughters, Roxanne Oster, Donna Overby and Margaret DeFrancisco, all of Portland; brother Leo of North Dakota; 11 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
The family suggests remembrances be contributions to the Parkinson's Disease Foundation.
