Born July 7, 1927, in Niceville, Fla., to Harvey and Fern Elizabeth (York) Filstrup, he married M. Juanita "Jan" Henderson on Oct. 7, 1948, at the West Bluff Christian Church in West Peoria. She survives.
Also surviving are two daughters, Christine D. (Eddy) Brown of Lewistown and Angela L. (Steven) Dehmlow of Morton; two grandchildren, Dylan J. (Katie) Dehmlow and Darah J. (Evan Shepherdson) Dehmlow, both of Morton; two stepgrandsons, Eddy R. (Anette) Brown Jr. of Peoria and Darren W. (Renee) Brown of Metamora; three stepgreat-grandchildren, Katie, Emma and Dorothy; three brothers, Michael (Lois) Filstrup of Creve Coeur, Robert Filstrup of Saint Paul, Minn., and James (Mae) Filstrup of Concord, Calif.; and two sisters, Virginia Sturm of Peoria and JoAnne Walter of Largo, Fla.
His parents preceded him in death.
A 1945 graduate of East Peoria Community High School, he took classes in heat treat and metallurgy at Caterpillar.
Charles had a fulfilling 31-year career at Caterpillar Inc. in the metallurgical department and also in the planning department. He retired in 1976.
He was a member of the ASM and the Crystal Cathedral Ministries in Garden Grove, Calif.
Charles was a Civil War buff and had a library of books, literature and mementos. He visited many battle locations and cemeteries.
His other interests were genealogy, airplanes and coins. He also enjoyed the game of golf and had two holes-in-one. He had wintered in Fort Myers, Fla., for many years.
Charles was a dedicated papa to his grandchildren and their sports and school activities. He loved his family and fellow man, and was a cat lover.
Family burial will be in Fondulac Cemetery in East Peoria.
