Douglas K. "Doug" Abbott, 65, passed away at Hot Springs County Memorial Hospital in Thermopolis, Nov. 20, 2007.

He was born Nov. 30, 1941 in Riverton, the son of Alva E. and Opal (Fike) Abbott. He attended Grass Creek and Thermopolis schools. Following school he served in the US Army from 1964 to 1971 serving in Korea and Germany.

On June 19, 1965, he married Ellen I Hurley in Thermopolis. A cowboy all his life, he enjoyed the western lifestyle.

He was especially interested in archaeology such as fossils and artifacts. He was a trapper, wood carver, poet, songwriter and musician.

He volunteered his time as a singer and poet at nursing homes, Senior Citizens and Lucerne School. He served as Mayor for some time in Kirby where he and his wife have resided for the past 37 years.

His father, Alva, mother, Opal, sister, Vera Wade, grandparents Homer and Ida Fike and Charles and Camora Abbott preceded Doug in death.

Survivors include his wife, Ellen "Hank" of Kirby; son Dan (Susan) Abbott of Thermopolis; brothers, Charles (Lanie) Abbott of Casper, Richard Abbott of Shoshoni; sisters, Beverly Rouse, Janet (Dick) Dickeson of Thermopolis, Peggy Smith of Casper; and three grandchildren, Anja, Darby and Clemens Abbott.

Burial will be at Monument Hill Cemetery.
