He graduated from Kramer High School in 1952. He served in the US Navy from 1952 to 1956 during the Korean conflict. He then attended college in Lincoln. Jack was a construction worker in the Columbus area. He was a member of the DAV, VFW and Eagles. He enjoyed fishing, bird watching, gardening and Nebraska football.
