Doddrige Pitt Chichester (1773-1833), son of Col. Richard Chichester and Sarah McCarty has been described thusly:

'Dodridge Pitt Chichester...bête noire of the clan. An absolutely notorious individual. I recommend Sprouse's book [Mount Air, 1970] for the best character study of this 'gentleman.' The archetypical degenerate scion of a dying class. I've learned much of him reading court proceedings.'-Bill Breihan

"Surviving records present so black a picture of Pitt Chichester that he, like his father, must have had considerable charm to induce any woman to marry him and countenance his misdeeds. Though he was not involved in duels as were his McCarty cousins, his sister testified in court that "he is in the habit of carrying guns, pistols, dirks, long knives, and other formidable weapons". The first Process Book of Fairfax County, covering the years 1809-1831, shows Pitt Chichester involved in 15 cases by 1827. Four were for "slanderous words" and the others for debt or trespassing."
- From Sprouse's "Mount Air".

Married 1st 30 DEC 1795 Catherine Sydnor. Married 2nd Frances 'Fanny' Sydnor.
