At age 16, Ms. Powers began her long term employment as a bookbinder for the Courier Citizen Corporation and worked there until her retirement. After retiring, Ms. Powers provided day care for children in her neighborhood and was known by all her charges as "Nanny."
Her other love was dogs. She always made sure to have several sharing her life and did in fact "adopt" a number of dogs providing them with a loving and caring environment.
She was a communicant of St. Michael Church for over sixty years and a member of the parish Holy Rosary Sodality.
