Eighth child of John Trisler (1789-1880) and Fannie (Reed) Trisler (d. 1825). Mother died when he was less than two years old. Stepmother Catherine (Gray) Trisler raised him. Learned to read and write. Eleven children. Lived in Ripley Co., Indiana, near brother David Trisler, when daughter Levina Isabell Trisler was born in 1858. Moved back to Washington Twp., Clermont Co., Ohio by 1860. Wife, Jane P. (Smith) Trisler (d. 25 Dec. 1894) buried near Eubanks, Lincoln Co., Kentucky where they lived from 1889. Studied and became a minister, preaching at the Bethelridge Community Curch near his home in Kentucky in early 1890's (church records document). Celebrated 50th wedding anniversary in June 1894. James and blind son, Max, sold Kentucky home in 1895 and returned to Maple, Brown Co., Ohio where James set up a little store and married Phoebe Smith, a spinster niece of his late wife. He had kidney problems which caused his death. Buried near his brother-in-law, Levi Smith.
