Image from his obituary in the Dallas Morning News . . . Dr. J.W. Crowdus, born in 1828 and died Sept. 1, 1895, founder of the wholesale drug company still [in 1928] bearing his name. Suggestive of those rugged qualities of character which caused men to speak of him as a "highly respected and good citizen" is the tall monument topped with a draped urn marking his grave in the Masonic and Odd Fellows' Cemetery; here also rests his wife, Fanny Ball. Dr. Crowdus served two terms as Mayor of Dallas, and Crowdus street is named for him. . . . Dallas Morning News, May 20, 1928
