Rev. Calfee was the son of Rev. William Monroe Calfee and Mary Hopkins Strong. He was the husband of Hattie H. Calfee, and they were the parents of Paul M. and William W. Calfee.
He was a Preacher-Lecturer, Methodist pastor, President of the South Dakota Epworth Assembly (1898-1902), and a speaker at the Oregon, Missouri Chautauqua in 1912.
