ARTHUR - Martha V. Albers , 92 of Arthur, Illinois passed away at 2:35 a.m. on Sunday, October 1, 2006 at the Illinois Masonic Home in Sullivan, Illinois.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, October 7, 2006 at the First Baptist Church in Arthur, IL. Rev. Pat Murphy and Rev. John Stewart will officiate. Burial will be in the Arthur Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Friday, October 6, 2006 at the Edwards Funeral Home, 221 E. Main St., Arcola, IL.
Martha was born August 28, 1914 in Arthur, IL. She was a daughter of Ola and Merle (Campbell) Fleming. She married Delbert F. Albers on June 9, 1940 in Arthur, IL.
Martha is survived by her husband, Delbert Albers , of Arthur, IL; nieces and nephews, Pamela Korte and her husband, Larry, of Covington, IN and their children, Robert Korte of Bloomington, IL and Eric Korte of Covington, IN; Patrice Fleming of Houston, TX; Jalee Cox and her husband, Paul, of Charleston, IL and their children, Jamie Gates of Springfield, IL and Dane Cox of Madison, WI; Jana Heath of Surprise, AZ and her children, Brett Heath of San Diego, CA, Sherie Olivias of Kingman, AZ and Shad Heath of Surprise, AZ; David Albers and his wife, Maggie, of Kirkwood, MO and their children, Michael Albers of Lake of the Ozarks, MO and twins, David and Ann Albers of Kirkwood, MO; sisters-in-law; June Shrader and Dorothy Albers both of Arthur, IL and several cousins.
Her parents, and two brothers, Olan R. (Bob) Fleming and Richard W. Fleming preceded her in death.
Martha began her career working as a bookkeeper for Fleming Auto Co. After taking a job with her father's company, she was offered a job at the State Bank of Arthur as a teller and cashier. She worked there for over 15 years before leaving to assist her husband in operating Albers Hardware and Gifts. In 1967 she accepted a job as bookkeeper for Delbert's Clothing where she worked for over 26 years before retiring.
She devoted her life to serving the community. She was a member of the First Baptist Church since 1927 and served as treasurer, pianist, and organist for 50 years. Martha was a charter member and past president of Arthur Evening Women's Club, a 60 year member and past matron of the Arthur Chapter Order of the Eastern Star, a Gold Star member and past president of the Arthur American Legion Auxiliary, a member and past worthy high priestess of Medina Shrine 98 of Taylorville, a former charter member of the Business and Professional Women of Arthur, and first president of the Douglas County American Cancer Society. In her leisure time she enjoyed bird watching and collecting her many music boxes.
