William was the son of John Doddridge Bowman and Harriet Pamela Cydrus.
He married on July 31, 1916, Jackson County, Ohio, to Mabel Pearl Brohard.

JOURNAL-HERALD, Jackson, Fri, Nov 22, 1985:
William A. Bowman, age 94, of Mill Street, Jackson died Thursday evening at the Long Term Care Unit of Oak Hill Hospital.
He was a retired farmer and carpenter and a member of the Savageville United Methodist Church.
Born in Ross County, he was the son of the late John and Harriett Bowman. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Mabel Brohard Bowman, a daughter, Esther Bowman Welch; one brother and three sisters.
Survivors include three daughters, Virginia Howe of Jackson, Winifred Mack of Medina and Opal Wendling of Dayton; four sons, Willard of Lucasville, Ezra of West Virginia, Everett of Barberton and Bill of Florida; a sister, Leora Hickman of Bethel; 26 grandchildren; 36 great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Friends may call after 2 p.m. Saturday at the Eisnaugle-Lewis Funeral Home. Services will be held there 1 p.m. Sunday with Rev. R. L. fisher officiating. Burial will be made in Evergreen Cemetery.
