Robert Boese was from the little town of Marion, Kansas. He was a National Guardsman who was called up to active duty and arrived in Vietnam in March of 1969. Boese had a chronic back injury received in a car accident and was given a job in the company rear. Robert felt guilty about his rear echelon job and asked to be assigned to a line company as a grunt. His request was granted.
Robert Boese and two other men were killed in a mortar attack while they waited at a helicopter landing zone. Boese's wife was four months pregnant when he died in Vietnam.
