JAMES 'JAKE' NEWBERN, 69, of Memphis, supervisor at Kimberly-Clark Corp., died of heart disease Sunday at Baptist Memorial Hospital East. Services will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday at St. Stephen's United Methodist Church with burial in Memphis Memory Gardens. Memphis Funeral Home Poplar Chapel has charge. He was a Navy veteran, a member of Normal Masonic Lodge F & Am. 722, and was a retired minister of Raleigh Methodist Church and Central North Church. Mr. Newbern, the husband of Dorothy C. Newbern, also leaves three daughters, Beverly Finney, Barbara Mayer and Pamela Newbern; and a son, James H. Newbern Jr.; a brother, Alonza Newbern, and six grandchildren. Additional information provided via anonymous email: "Would you put a note that his older brother spelled his last name with a U instead of an E but nobody really understood why...... Rev. Walter E. Newburn died in 1989 and he left his brothers Jake Newbern and Al Newbern both of Memphis."
