NEWPORT NEWS - Howard Byron Brown passed away Saturday, Sept. 15, 2007, at the Chesapeake Retirement Community, Newport News. He had moved there from the Bennetts Creek area of Suffolk in 2004.
Howard was born in Fall River, Wis., on May 24, 1924, to the late Ethel O. and Otto Brown. He was a Navy veteran having served during WW II. He graduated from Purdue University at Lafayette, Ind., with a degree in Civil Engineering. Howard developed an expertise in water pollution control and compliance with environmental law and regulations. He later become a freelance consultant expert in compliance management.
He leaves to cherish his memory his wife of 59 years, Shirley Sheperd Brown; one daughter, Becky Brown of Williamsburg; four sons, Dr. Bruce Brown of Yorktown, Brad Brown of Toronto, Canada, Brian Brown of Norfolk and Dr. Brent Brown of New Smyrna Beach, Fla.; one sister, Beatrice Jones Holder of North Fort Meyers, Fla.; and seven grandchildren.
A reception will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, Sept. 21, at the Chesapeake Retirement Community. Inurnment will be private in the Albert G. Horton Jr. Memorial Veterans Cemetery.
The family would like to thank the staff at the Chesapeake Retirement Community for their special care and compassion during their time of need.
Family and friends will gather at 5 p.m. Friday at the home of Jack and Mary Ann Eure.
Memorial donations may be made to the American Parkinson Disease Association, Inc., 1353 Parkinson Ave., Staten Island, NY 10305.
