Sterling Dewitte Key, 90 of Gatesville, died Thursday, March 19 (1992) at Coryell Memorial Hospital following a short illness. Funeral services were held Saturday, March 21 at the Evant Funeral Home Chapel with Minister Delbert Smith officiating. Burial was at Mt. Zion Cemetery, in Lingeville.

Mr. Key was born Feb. 7, 1902 at Purdon Texas in Navarro County to James Lovette and Amanda Jane Black Key. He married Hattie Hallmark Key, June 30, 1929 at the School Hill Community near Lingeville. He was a farmer and a member of the Church of Christ.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, George Key.

Survivors include his wife, Hattie Hallmark Key of Evant; seven children, Emanuel DeWitte Key of Evant, Luther Pierce Key of Rialeo, CA, Cecil Wayne Key of Irving, Phillip Lavon Key of Irving, Betty Ruth Rotenberry of Crowley, Herman Daniel Key of Azel, and Joyce Marie Kerley of Crowley; nine grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers were Tommy Wayne Rotenberry, Kenneth Ray Rotenberry, Larry Don Rotenberry, James Scott Key, Tommy William Rotenberry, and Clifton Don Kerley.
