Mrs. Alice (Sanford) McKinney, 87, a longtime resident of Mount Calm, passed away Friday, Nov. 23, 2007, at her home. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 1, at Wade Funeral Chapel in Hubbard with interment to follow at Mount Calm Cemetery. The Rev. Bill Hughes, former minister of Mount Calm United Methodist Church, and the Rev. Timothy Thomas, current minister, will officiate. The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, Nov. 30,at the funeral home.

Alice was born in Caledonia, Texas, to the late Gary and Annie(Barron)Sanford. She grew up in East Texas and was a 1938 graduate of Timpson High School. She later attended Texas State College for Women and the University of Texas. On November 15, 1942, Mrs. McKinney married Robert Thompson McKinney of Mount Calm. They lived in Corpus Christi until 1943 when Mr. McKinney went overseas with the Coast Guard during World War II, at which time Mrs.
McKinney moved to Mount Calm where she lived the rest of her life. She worked at the First National Bank of Mount Calm. Her husband served as president until the bank was sold in 1978, and she served as director, teller and bookkeeper. Mrs. McKinney was very active in Mount Calm civic affairs and was instrumental in the building of the Mount Calm Public Library and Community Center, serving as president of the library board for many years, and the Mount Calm City Hall. She was also a benefactor of the Mount Calm baseball field. She loved people, boating and entertaining and was a member of First United Methodist Church of Mount Calm, the Mount Calm Study Club, in which she held many offices, and the Mount Calm 42 Club. She supported her husband in the United States Power Squadron, a nationwide boating organization.

She was preceded in death by her husband in 2001.

Survivors include sisters, Ruth Keeble, of Tucson, Ariz. and Helen Allen, of Jasper; eight nieces and nephews; and other relatives. She is also survived by loving caregivers, Doris and Arnold McKinney, Tricia Law and Lisa
Woodall.

The family requests that memorials be made to Mount Calm Public Library, P.O. Box 84, Mount Calm, TX 76673, First United Methodist Church of Mount Calm, N. Allyn Avenue, Mount Calm, TX 76673, or Providence Hospice, 107 E.
Palestine, Mexia, TX 76667.
