VIRGINIA BEACH - Gladys Whitehurst Allen, 89, of the 800 block of First Colonial Road, died Jan. 10, 2003, in Virginia Beach.
Mrs. Allen was born in Princess Anne County, Va., and was the daughter of the late Luther W. Whitehurst and Nellie Fentress Whitehurst. She was the widow of Irvin James Allen Jr., and was predeceased by her brother, Levy W. Whitehurst.
She was a charter member of St. John's United Methodist Church in Norfolk, and had recently joined Virginia Beach United Methodist Church. She was also a member of the Little Creek Woman's Club.
She is survived by her daughter, Judy Allen Williams and her husband, Larry, of Virginia Beach; two sisters, Hazel W. Keller of Mulberry, Fla., and Bernice W. Day and her husband, Jimmy, of Virginia Beach; two grandsons, Gregory Williams and his wife, Mary, of Fredericksburg, Va., and John Williams of Virginia Beach; and two great-grandchildren, Madeline and Rosa Williams of Fredericksburg.
A funeral will be held at 11 a.m. today in Charity United Methodist Church by the Rev. Robert E. Cooper. Burial will follow in Charity Cemetery. Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home, Great Neck Chapel, is in charge. Memorial donations may be made to St. John's United Methodist Church, 2709 Greendale Ave., Norfolk, VA 23518 or Charity United Methodist Church, 4080 Charity Neck Road, Virginia Beach, VA 23457.
