MR H A CARITHERS PASSES TO BEYOND, BE BURIED TODAY
Was One of Most Prominent Citizens of Northeast Georgia - Relatives Here.
Hundred of Athens friends of Mr H A Carithers, Sr, a prominent capitalist and citizen of Winder, who died at a private sanitarium in Atlanta yesterday morning, were grieved to learn of his demise, and will attend short services which are to be held this morning in Winder and accompany the remains to Bethabara church, a few miles from Athens, where the funeral and interment will occur at 11:30.
Mr Carithers was a son of the late Hugh A Carithers, of Oconee, one of the most prominent citizens of this section of the state, and was a brother of Mr J Y Carithers, who up to the time of his death a few years since, was one of the most prominent business men and citizens of Athens. He was also a brother of Mr R L Carithers, of Winder, who survives him. With the latter, "Doc", as he was familiarly known to his friends, went to Winder in early manhood, and both became leaders in business, social and church affairs of the community.
Mr Carithers was fifty-three years old and was widely known throughout Georgia. He became ill two weeks ago and was carried to Atlanta for treatment, where he was under the care of several physicians, but his condition gradually grew worse until the end came Thursday morning.
Services will be held from the residence in Winder this morning at 10:30, and the body will be taken to Bethabara church, at the Carithers homestead, where the funeral and interment will occur. Mr Carithers, with his brothers a few years ago donated the land and put up one of the most beautiful brick church buildings in the country and donated it to the community in memory of their mother, and now his remains are to be taken to their final resting place in its shadows to await the resurrection morn.
A large number of Athens and Clarke county people will attend the services for "Doc" Carithers had numerous friends, and staunch ones, in this city and county.
Besides his brother, Mr Carithers is survived by a widow; two nieces and a nephew, all of Winder, and a sister-in-law, Mrs J Y Carithers, of Athens.
