William Champlin was born in 1757, a son of Joseph Champlin and Mary Noyes. He and his father both fought in the Revolutionary War and William later wrote about his experiences. He married Content Leeds Brown in 1781 in Leyden, Rhode Island. They had 6 children - Content Etheridge, Sophia Udall, Mary Noyes Castle, William, Christopher and George Champlin.
