Ernest Charles Stowell was the son of Joseph Converse Stowell, a carpenter and Civil War veteran, and Jane C. Sweetzer Stowell.

Ernest married Florence M. Heath on Nov. 18, 1881 in Hartford.

Ernest and Florence had five children who survived until adulthood: Harris in 1882, Raymond in 1887, Richard in 1893, Russell in 1898 and Willard in 1899. Their daughter Nellie, born in 1891, died as a baby, and two children didn't live long enough to be named.

Ernest was a nice man with pure white hair. He lived in Hartford all his life, and he worked as a letter carrier, a printer and a clerk.

The gravestone inscription reads: age 72 yrs 1½ mos. It should read: age 72 yrs 10½ mos. I haven't seen the gravestone myself, so I'm not sure whether this is a transcription error or a calculation error on the part of the stone cutter.

Credit goes to the Hale Transcription of 1936 for initially noting burials in this cemetery, and to Marie B. for agreeing to a memorial ownership transfer. Thanks!
