Mrs. Martha M. Turner, one of the old and highly respected citizens of this community died at 10 o'clock A.M., Sunday Feb. 28, 1886 at the residence of her son-in-law, J. W. Miles, aged 62 years, 7 months, of cancer. The deceased was born near Lexington, Ky., July 28, 1823. At the age of 10 she moved to Missouri with her parents, locating in Randolph Co., Mo. On Feb 22 she married Elijah Turner, and in 1853 moved to Macon County, settling on a farm one mile east of Bear Creek, in Johnson township, which has been her home ever since. Mr. Turner preceded her to the grave 7 years ago. Eight children were the result of this marriage, six sons and two daughters. Grandmother Turner was for 25 years a faithful member of the Cumberland Presbyterian Church, and a devot christian.
