TOWERY, Mrs. Mariah Ellen Jackson (Owen) of Salty Community. Age 56. Died 10/7/1938 (Friday) at her home at Salty, after a lingering illness of more than a year. Services held (Sunday) in Salty Methodist Church. Burial in Salty Cemetery. Services conducted by Elders R.V. Holliman of Normangee, C.J. Hanks of Mullen, Franklin Baker of Georgetown, W.R. Blackman of Mexia and Rev. L.E. Strickland of Rockdale. Song service rendered by members of the Primitive Church and the Kyle Quartet. Song for the service sung by the quartet was "Watch and Pray" composed by the deceased's late father, A.J. Jackson.

She was BORN 1/20/1882 at Salty in Milam Co., the daughter of the late M/M. A.J. Jackson, who departed this life 1/30/1938 and 7/13/1938. Accepted Christ as her Saviour, united with the Methodist Church and was a true and faithful member. Married to O.F. Towery, 2/3/1901, 6 children born to union, 5 sons; 1 daughter, all of whom still survive, of the 5 sons 4 are mechanics. Joined Primitive Baptist Church in 9/1916. Preceded in death more than a year ago by grandson, Doyle Wayne Caffey.

SURVIVORS: Husband, Owen F. Towery of Thorndale; children, Conrad of Teague; A.C. of Rockdale; Leon of Bastrop; Mrs. Norma Caffey, Phillip and Mark Towery, all of Salty Comm.; 6 grandchildren; 6 sisters; 5 brothers.
