George Vandruff Blessing, 78, formerly of Downing, Missouri, died at the Jefferson Square Manor Nursing Home in Ottumwa, Iowa, Sunday at 10:25 p.m. after enduring several months of failing health.

The son of John D. and Birdie Vandruff Blessing, he was born in Schuyler County, Missouri, on April 12, 1893. He was a resident of Ottumwa for several years. On January 4, 1915 he married Viola Wheeler.

He is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Forrest (Lelah) Martin, three grandchildren, Cherie Carr, Steve and Jeffrey Doud, and three great-grandchildren, all of Ottumwa, one sister, Mrs. Paul (Marie) Farland of New Boston, Texas, and two brothers, Guy of Knoxville, Iowa, and Roy of Downing, and several nieces and nephews, relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents and by his wife, Viola, in 1967.
