She taught for 51 years, starting in 1937 at Meta Rose Rural School in Lafayette County, Florida for one year. Mobley also taught two years in Houston, Texas, three years in Columbia County, Florida, five years in Hillsborough County, Florida, two years in Suwannee County, Florida, five years in the Territory of Alaska in Anchorage, 30 years in State of Alaska in Anchorage, one year in Fairbanks, Alaska and two years at University of Alaska to student teachers.
Helen Terry married Jimmie Edwards of Ft. White, Florida and they had a daughter, Patricia. Jimmy died in an accident when Patricia was young. On July 9, 1948, Helen married John Mobley. They have been married for 59 years.
Mobley gave of herself not only to family and friends but also to the communities in which she has lived. She started the "Right to Read" Programs for children in Alaska by acquiring funds through the State of Alaska and Federal Education Program. Mobley conducted workshops for teachers in remote areas of Alaska during summer vacation to insure teachers were up-to-date with current teaching methods and information. In 1972 and 1973, she was voted teacher of the year for the State of Alaska.
Mobley was a member of Delta Gamma Honorary Society for teachers and a member of the Retired Teachers Association of Alaska, Florida and Maine. She was also the president of the Women's Club in Dexter, Maine and Anthony, Florida.
Mobley was a selfless and giving woman who will be dearly missed by her family and many friends. Those who knew and loved Helen will feel her absence greatly.
Funeral services were conducted at 10 a.m., Friday, June 29, 2007 at Ft. White Baptist Church, Ft. White, Florida with the Rev. Bill Anderson and the Rev. Freddie Edwards officiating. Interment at Elim Cemetery, Ft. White, Florida.
