Born in East Hampton, L.I., son of William and Amalia Champlain, he was a resident of Brookhaven for 38 years. During this time he served as school clerk, a Republican county committeeman and was active in the Fire Department serving as fire commissioner at the time of his death, a position he had held for the past 8 years. He was head dispatcher of the Ambulance company for the past six years and was an active member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars. He organized and was chairman of the Brookhaven Town blood bank.
