He married Almeda Fielden on 3 May 1929 and they lived in St. Paul, Minnesota while he performed at various locations, including, eventually, the Excelsior Amusement Park on Lake Minnetonka. On Sunday, 24 August 1930, in front of a large crowd that included his wife, his fourth parachute did not deploy correctly and he plunged into the lake to his death.
