Reverend William Henry Rowe is a decendant of Rev. John Robinson of Leyden, Netherlands, pastor of the Mayflower Company who organized the pilgrimage to Plymouth, Massachusetts in 1620. He received his Ph.B and M.A from Beloit College, Wisconsin and his B.D from Yale University. He was ordained in the Congregational Ministry in Deer River, New York 12 Oct. 1897. In 1909 he accepted the pastorate in Citronelle, Alabama at the First Presbyterian Church. He organized Troop 1, Boy Scouts of America of Citronelle, Alabama in 1910.
For unknown reasons (probably too old) he was not allowed to join the military during World War 1 but was allowed to go to France after the War to help with the war effort. He served overseas as a hut secretary from December 7, 1918 until his death. He was attached to the 303rd. Engineers of the American Expeditionary Force and died there of pneumonia at 9:45 PM on 20 Jan 1919 at the office camp hospital no. 65 at Semur, Cote d-or, France. He is buried in Grave #5, Row 26, Block B. Cemetery Street in the Saint Mihiel American Cemetery, Thiaucourt, Meurthe-et-Moselle, France which is 25 miles S.W. of Metz.
