Frank reportedly lost his mother in 1865 and is found in Freedom township, LaFayette, Missouri in 1870, next in 1880 where he likely learned saddle making with his ten year older half brother, Gustave Meyer, in Henderson, Rusk county, Texas, then he is found in Carthage, Jasper county, Missouri where he and his brother Fred W had in 1890, bought Alexander J Kirke's jewelry store at north end of west side of the square. In 1899 Frank & Fred became involved in the stone mining industry to wit:
Reportedly, from an article in Carthage Evening Press copied by this magazine's Vol 19, July 1899, the following regarding new Carthage Quarry north of Carthage, Missouri west from Carthage Stone company of Curtis Wright, John W Ground & Wm R Logan, to wit:
Eugene O'Keefe, president, F A Steadley, vice-president, F W Steadley, secretary-treasure with Martin McNerney general manager, brother P J McNerney and Col W H Phelps stockholders. Bob O'Brien was Quarry Boss.
It went on to say that Martin McNerney was first to use the Carthage stone in 1881, when constructing Missouri-Pacific RR bridges.
Frank then moved on to eastern Texas for some unknown reason, where we find he married and had three children while pursuing his craft of saddle making in the county that later bordered upon Toledo Bend Lake with its dedication ceremony October 11, 1969, and town Timpson on senic U S Highway #59. south of Carthage, Texas.
