Second child, first son born to Thomas Earl Betenson and Katharine Hoilen Myers. Raised in Garland, Utah where his father was the only resident doctor for miles in a mainly agricultural & ranch environment. Graduated from Bear River High School in 1939, joined the Utah National Guard, and was a World War II veteran who served in the European Theater as an artilleryman with the U.S. Army. His artillery company was one of the first Americans units to witness the horrors of the holocaust inside Germany at the close of the war. Married Hilma Jackson. Children: Gloria Jean(Betenson) Arnt, Kathy (Betenson) Fabre, Sharleen (Betenson) Winterholler, and Robert Betenson. Siblings: Hoilen Betenson Mitchell (1920-2006), Gwenth Betenson Weaver (1924-), and James Betenson (1927-2011).
