Ralph Wardlaw Cummings was born September 4, 1832 in Maine. He was the son of Asa Cummings and Phebe Johnson. Hw was married, May 20, 1857, Alice Illsley Waterhouse, who died dec. 5, following. He married second, Mar. 14, 1865, Eunice Flora Miner, who, after her husband's death, married Judge C. G. Sayle, of Fresno, Calif. (his third marriage). Two years in 1853 class, bowdoin college; M.D., New York Medical College, 1856; editor and publisher if the Maine Medical and Surgical Journal, 1858; entered army as private and became sergeant; assistant surgeon of 23d Michigan Infantry, and honorably discharged November 10, 1863; surgeon 1st United States Colored Heavy Artillery, Mar. 10, 1864; honorably discharged Mar. 31, 1866. He was a life insurance and claim agent in Knoxville, Tenn., in 1867; a druggist in Minneapolis, Minn., in 1870, and associate editor there of the Evening Times and News in 1873. He went to California and edited a local paper in Benicia for a time, prectising somewhat his profession. He died Aug. 17, 1880.

He had six children with his second wife Eunice Flora Miner. They are:

According to pension records of his brother in law, Samuel Dawson Miner, Ralph Wardlaw Miner was interred in Mountain View Cemetery in Oakland.
