Two Jurymen Excused Because Of A Death
John Baker and Levi Huffman Were Related To Mrs. Jacob Huffman, Who Died From Paralysis.
Mrs. Jacob Huffman, aged about seventy, whose home was a mile east and one half mile north of Buckeye, died suddenly at five o'clock this morning from a stroke of paralysis and heart trouble.
Mrs. Huffman was apparently as well as usual Monday and was at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Samuel Priddy, during the day assisting her daughter to provide for a corn shredding crew working there. She retired at night without any special complaint. This morning she was suddenly stricken and died before a physician could be summoned. She leaves a husband and three married children.
On account of Mrs. Huffman's death two of the circuit jurymen were excused this morning. They were John Baker, a brother of Mrs. Huffman, and Levi Huffman, a brother-in-law. They were on their way to Bluffton this morning when they received word at Poneto of Mrs. Huffman's death and come on to town and were excused by Judge Vaughn, and allowed to return home. No case had been started.

Lady Had Been in Excellent Health up to the Day of Her Death.

While getting breakfast for her husband at her home on the Wells and Huntington county line east of Buckeye Tuesday morning Mrs. Jacob Huffman was stricken with apoplexy and died two hours later.
Mrs. Huffman had arisen shortly before six o'clock that morning and after building a fire in the kitchen stove she scrubbed the floor where the rain had beaten into the room through a door that had blown open during the night. She had scarcely finished the work when she grew faint and sat down upon a chair. Her husband went as rapidly as possible to the home of his son Frank Huffman who lives a short distance away and father and son hastened to the house where the dying woman was. When they entered she was lying upon the floor but was still conscious and recognized her son. Another son Martin Huffman soon arrived but the aged lady had become unconscious and never rallied.
Mrs. Huffman had been feeling well for a lady of her age and had done the family washing the day previous. After doing so she and her husband drove to the home of her daughter Mrs. Samuel Priddy where they spent some time. Returning home she sewed until about eight o'clock in the evening and had made arrangements to spend the next day at the home of her son Martin Huffman. Her death came as a great shock to her children and many friends.
A physician who was called pronounced the cause of death to be apoplexy and paralysis.
Sarah Baker was born in Champaign county Ohio, May 16, 1838. While she was still a child her parents moved from Ohio and settled in Jackson township Wells county. Here she was married to Jacob Huffman September 15, 1853. The couple celebrated their fifty-second wedding anniversary last September and up to that time there had not been a single death among their children or grand children. A short time later one of their grand children died, being the first sorrow of the kind to enter the immediate family for more than a half century.
The deceased was the mother of three children, two sons and one daughter. The children are Martin Huffman, Frank Huffman and Mrs. Samuel Priddy. These with the aged husband and five grand childres [sic] are living.
The funeral was held Thursday morning from the M. P church at Boehmer where the aged lady had been a worshiper for many years. Rev J. E Etter had charge of the services. The burial was in Woodlawn Cemetery.
