Leo Francis Whitne
y Sr., 78, a native of New Orleans and resident of Houma, died at 11:35 a.m.
Tuesday, April 25, 2000.

Visitation will be from 5 to 10 p.m. today and from 8 a.m. to funeral time Thursday at Chauvin
Funeral Home. Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at Christ Baptist Church, with burial
in Holy Rosary Cemetery.

He is survived by his wife, Mary Lou Camp Whitney of Houma; one son, Leo F. Whitney Jr. of Cut
Off; three stepsons, Richard Babin of Houma, Ronnie Babin of Richmond, Texas, and Randel Babin
of Jacksonville, Fla.; two daughters, Karen Marcum of Houston, Texas, and Mary Beth Tate of
Opelousas; one stepdaughter, Robin A. Legel of Tallahassee, Fla.; two brothers, Bernard Whitney
of Houma, and M.S.Y.R. Phillip Whitney of Thibodaux; two sisters, Claire Marie Lottinger and
Genieve Darsey, both of Houma; 10 grandchildren; 11 step-grandchildren; six great-grandchildren;
and four step-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Marianne Bueche Whitney; his parents, Philip and
Claire Tinney Whitney; one son, John David Whitney; one stepdaughter, Rebecca Whatley; two
brothers, Stephen and Donald Whitney; and three step-grandchildren.

He was a retired accountant for Whitney's Bookkeeping and Tax Service, a U.S. Navy World War II
veteran, a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and a member of the Amer
ican Legion. He was a
past president of Louisiana Accounting Association, a past president of the Formal Optimist
Club, a past president of the Louisiana Independent Accountant Association, a past president of
the Terrier Club, a member of Gideon International, a member of the Elk's Club and a member of
the Top Blood Donors with 138 pints of blood donated in Houma. He was a member of Christ Baptist
Church.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Gideon International Memorial Bible Fund,
P.O. Box 266, Houma, LA 70361.

Chauvin Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
