2023 Important update. Although traditionally thought of as the son of a Daniel Breckenridge, he is not. Years of research by various researchers never could find a connection to any Breckenridge family beyond Daniel. DNA analysis of second and third cousins of Daniel beginning in 2021 found that they shared a common ancestor named Munsey, either a Samuel Kinley Munsey or his son John William Hicks Munsey. Most likely it is John that is Daniel's father due to age and family status. Both lived in the same valley of Virginia where Daniel and Lenora Breckenridge lived. Further questions about this research can be asked of the manager of this memorial.

A researcher of Daniel's brother of William Johnston Breckenridge has come to the same conclusion. This researcher has different genetic cousins than Walter Chapman meaning he has a different father as well. It is unknown who William's father is at this time.

The family of Walter Chapman was decimated by a 1929 fire. Daniel, Margaret, and Dorothy died in a tragic house fire. Shortly thereafter, daughter Hazel died from injuries she received trying to save them.
