Phillip Hack - Phillip Hack, 83, of 110 East Martin street, a long-time merchant and active churchman, died Tuesday at 11 p.m. in City Hospital. Born in Russia on Feb. 12, 1871, he was a son of Benjamin and Bessie Saxe Hack, of that country. He had been in business here since 1907 and in 1913 built the Strand Theatre Building. He also owned the Colonial Hotel, now the Washington Hotel. He was also the first merchant to operate a ladies' ready-to-wear clothing store here. He was an active member and one of the founders of Beth Jacob Synagogue and was one of the founders of the cemetery. He was also a member of the Loyal Order of Moose. Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Nora Hemminger Hack; son, Leo R., New York City; sister, Mrs. Bee Meyers, Miami, Fla.; and a number of nieces and nephews. Services will be held Friday at 2 p.m. at Rosemont, Kogelschatz and Coffman Funeral Home, with Rabbi David Schwartz, of Hagerstown, Md. Officiating. Burial will be in Beth Jacob Cemetery.
