Services for Jesse Joe Powell, 69, of Spur were held at 10:30 Saturday morning, May 7, 1994 in the Bethel Baptist Church with church pastor, Rev. Carl Coffey officiating, assisted by Dr. Daniel M. Hubbel, of San Antonio. Burial was in Spur Memorial Cemetery under direction of Campbell Funeral Home.

Mr. Powell died May 5, 1994 at 2:20 a.m. in Idalou, following a lengthy illness.

He was born in Afton and had lived in Dickens County most of his life. He married Ella Bertha Farris in Dickens on May 9, 1943.

He graduated from Afton Schools in 1941 and was and Air Force veteran of World War II.

He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Bertha Powell, Spur; two sons, Jesse Powell, Lubbock and Jimmy Powell, San Antonio; two daughters, Ella Jo Sisk, Idalou and Mary Ruth McCombs Wessels, of Odessa; one sister Sue Condron, Spur; eleven grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
