GRANDDAUGHTER OF CIVIL WAR GENERAL DIES
Morehouse - The granddaughter of a Confederate Civil War General, Mrs. A. J. Baugher of Morehouse, died early today in a Dexter nursing home. She was 88 years old.
Mrs. Baugher's grandfather, Gen. Nathaniel Watkins, led the Confederate troops during the Civil War. A Native of Kentucky, he was a pioneer settler in Missouri and was a leading lawyer of the area.
Mrs. Baugher, the former Miss Effie M. Watkins, was born near Morley on March 1, 1879. Her parents were W. B. and Sally Watkins.
Mrs. Baugher was a retired schoolteacher, having served various schools in Scott County for many years.
Surviving are her husband; a daughter, Mrs. Eula Minner; a brother, Archie Watkins; two stepsons, Clinton Baugher and Adrian Baugher; two grandchildren and a great-grandchild.
Mrs. Baugher was first married to George W. Page, who died in 1932.
Funeral services will be held Friday at the Jackson Funeral Chapel at Sikeston. Burial will be in the Memorial Park Cemetery at Sikeston.
