Alpha, Ill, April 26 – Mrs. Ann C. Calkins McDowell, aged 79, died at her home in Alpha at 2:10 o'clock Sunday morning. She had been ill five days with influenza and pneumonia.
Mrs. McDowell was born Nov 19, 1846 at Oneida in Knox County. She was married Oct. 22, 1867 at Henderson, Ill to George McDowell, who died two years ago. Mrs. McDowell had lived in Alpha for 36 years. She was a member of the Baptist Church since 16 years old.
Surviving her are the following sons and daughters; C. O. McDowell of North Henderson, Mrs. C.B. McCurdy and Mae McDowell, Alpha, and Robert E of Altona; also 16 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be held at 2 o'clock Tuesday afternoon at the home, followed by burial in the Alpha Cemetery. Rev W. S. Whiteman of Erie, a former Alpha pastor, will officiate.
