June Russell Malone, 74, of Amarillo died Saturday, Jan. 26, 2002.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday in Coulter Road Baptist Church with Dr. Larry Payne officiating. Burial will be in Llano Cemetery by N.S. Griggs & Sons Funeral Directors, 2615 Paramount Blvd.
Mrs. Malone was born and raised in Follett. She received both a bachelor's and a master's degree from West Texas State University. She married James W. Malone in 1946 in Follett.
She taught school in Morse and Groom in 1948 and 1949. She taught in Stinnett from 1951 until 1959 and moved to Amarillo in 1959. She taught school in the Amarillo Independent School District for many years.
She taught at Amarillo High School as well as Palo Duro High School before retiring in 1982. After her retirement from the Amarillo School District, she taught at Amarillo College as well as West Texas State University.
She was an active member of Coulter Road Baptist Church. She was a member of the Laureate Epsilon XI chapter of Beta Sigma Phi as well as the Eta Phi chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma sororities.
She was also a member of the Amarillo Retired Teacher's Association and the Panhandle Professional Writers Association.
Survivors include her husband; two sons, Kim Malone and wife, Jo, of Amarillo and Kevin Malone and wife, Frances, of Waco; a sister, Coeta Lewis of Broken Arrow, Okla.; three brothers, Dean Russell of Amarillo, Boyd Russell of Tulsa, Okla., and Errol Russell of Oklahoma City; six grandchildren, Brett Anne Williams, Heather Milligan and husband, Anthony, and Lisa Williams, all of Amarillo, Weston Malone of College Station, Audrey Malone and Austin Malone, both of Waco; and a great-granddaughter, Sabrina Ennis of Amarillo.
The family suggests memorials be to Coulter Road Baptist Church; or to West Texas A&M University, Alumni Association, P.O. Box 62833, Canyon, TX 79016.
