Verla McLean Abee
Mrs. Verla McLean Abee, 86, of Gastonia, passed away at her residence on Monday, June 11, 2007, after a period of declining health.
Verla was born on Feb. 8, 1921, in Watauga County to the late Hardy McLean and Cordie Andrews McLean.
She was retired from Martinat Hosiery Mill in Valdese and was a member of Flint-Groves Baptist Church in Gastonia.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, William Merton Abee, Sr.; one son, William Merton Abee, Jr.; stepdaughters Elsie Lassiter and Wanda D. Barker; and one brother, Lowman McLean.
She is survived by her daughter, Maxine Jestes and her husband, Jim, of Gastonia; one son, Kenneth Vance and his wife, Ellen, of Dallas; three stepdaughters, Maxine Abee Riddle and her husband, Bill, of Asheville, Margaret L. Long of Indianapolis, Ind. and Anna L. Abee of Asheburn, Va.: one sister, Dora Lee McGuire and her husband, Victor, of Valdese; seven grandchildren and six stepgrandchildren; nine great-grandchildren and 14 great- stepgrandchildren; seven great-great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday in the Chapel of Heritage Funeral Service in Valdese with the Rev. Larry W. Bradley officiating.
Interment will follow at Abee's Grove Baptist Church Cemetery.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service Thursday at Heritage Funeral Service in Valdese.
